Who Pays for Harvey?
A call for climate accountability in Oil Country
What we did
Working with local partners Public Citizen Texas, CCI saturated the Houston market to raise the question of who should pay for the growing bills related to Hurricane Harvey. Although hurricanes will always occur, science shows that up to 40 percent of the torrential downpour that led to devastating flooding can be tied to climate change. So, we dared to ask: Isn't it time climate polluters help taxpayers with climate change-related costs? With the final bill looking like at least $120 billion, it's important that citizens continue to fight for the companies that helped amplify climate change damages pitch in for recovery.
